Answers to common questions about Skerp.
Skerp is a photo proofing and gallery delivery platform built for professional photographers. Create a client gallery in seconds, share a single link, and let your clients review, select, and approve images from any device — no client account required. Copy approved filenames and paste them into Lightroom, or use the Skerper plugin for real-time two-way sync. Generate PDF contact sheets, or deliver final images as streaming ZIP downloads. Whether you shoot weddings, portraits, events, or commercial work, Skerp gives you a distraction-free, dark-first gallery experience that puts your photography front and center.
Getting started
How do I create an account?
Go to skerp.io and click "Get started." Enter your name, email, and a password. No credit card required — the Free plan is immediately active.
What happens after I sign up?
You land on the Welcome Wizard. Choose your photography focus (wedding, portrait, event, commercial, or other) and Skerp auto-configures smart defaults for selection limits, gallery expiry, and branding. Upload a logo and company name, or skip and do it later.
What is the Activation Checklist?
A small widget on your Dashboard that tracks setup progress: upload a logo, set your accent color, create your first gallery, and send your first invitation. Complete these at your own pace. Dismiss the checklist anytime.
What can I see on the Dashboard?
Gallery stats, recent activity, and quick actions. You see total galleries by status, recent client activity, and storage usage at a glance.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Every new account gets a 14-day trial of Standard features — unlimited galleries, full branding, PDF exports, and the Lightroom plugin. No credit card required. After the trial you drop to the Free plan unless you subscribe.
Can I use Skerp on my phone?
The photographer dashboard is optimized for desktop and tablet. Client galleries are fully mobile-optimized with touch gestures, pinch-to-zoom, and offline support.
Creating galleries
What is the difference between a proof gallery and a download gallery?
A proof gallery is the full review workflow: clients browse, select favorites, reject others, and submit an approval. A download gallery is download-only — clients view the final images and download individually or as a ZIP. No selection or approval step.
How do I create a new gallery?
Click "New Proof" or "New Delivery" in the sidebar. You can also drop files directly into the Workspace — a draft gallery is created automatically from the first file.
What gallery settings can I configure?
Title, client name and email, selection mode (approve/reject/unset), minimum and maximum selections, expiry date, password protection, client registration, identity preference, right-click protection, approval message, and branding overrides (logo, accent color, theme).
What are gallery statuses?
Draft (not yet shared), Sent (invitation sent), Opened (client viewed), Approved (selections finalized), Expired (past expiry date), and Delivered (final files shared). The lifecycle moves forward: Draft to Sent to Opened to Approved to Delivered.
Can I set an expiry date on a gallery?
Yes. Set any date or use the default (60 days). After expiry, clients see an "expired" notice and can no longer access the gallery. You can change or remove the expiry at any time before it triggers.
Can I duplicate a gallery?
Yes. From the Gallery Overview, duplicate the gallery. It creates a new draft with the same settings and images but a fresh token and status.
What is the Workspace?
An upload-first gallery creation flow. Drop files anywhere on the gallery list page and a draft gallery is created automatically. The title is inferred from file or folder names. Edit settings after uploading.
Uploading images
What file formats can I upload?
JPEG, PNG, WebP, and HEIC. Files are automatically converted to WebP for fast gallery loading. Originals are preserved in storage.
Is there a file size limit?
Individual files can be up to 100 MB. Uploads are split into chunks, so large files upload reliably even on slower connections. If a chunk fails, it retries automatically.
Can I upload entire folders?
Yes. Drag a folder onto the upload zone and all supported images inside it are queued. Folder structure is not preserved — images are added flat to the gallery.
How does chunked upload work?
Each file is split into smaller pieces and uploaded in parallel. If your connection drops, only the failed chunk is retried — not the entire file. Upload speed adapts automatically to your connection.
What happens after upload?
Images enter the processing queue. Skerp generates a display-optimized WebP, a high-resolution preview, responsive thumbnail variants, and a blur-up placeholder. Processing runs in the background — the gallery is usable as soon as thumbnails are ready.
How are images ordered?
Each gallery has a "Sort photos by" setting: filename (the default), date taken, or file date. Date taken uses the camera's capture time and falls back to the file date for photos without one. Your gallery pages, the client gallery and PDF exports all follow the same order. Change it under Appearance in the gallery settings, or set a default in Gallery Defaults.
Sharing with clients
How do I share a photo proofing gallery with my client?
From the Gallery Overview, copy the gallery link and send it however you like — email, text, DM. Or use the built-in invitation: enter the client email and Skerp sends a branded email with the gallery link.
Do clients need an account to view my gallery?
No. Clients open the link and start reviewing immediately. You can optionally require a password, ask for name and email (identity prompt), or require full registration with email verification.
Can I password-protect a client gallery?
Yes. Set a password in gallery settings. Clients enter it once per session before the gallery loads. The password is included in the invitation email if you send one through Skerp.
What are pretty URLs?
Short, branded gallery links like skerp.io/yourname/gallery-name instead of the default token-based URL. Available on Standard, Pro, and Studio plans.
What is client registration?
When enabled, clients must enter their name and email (and optionally verify their email) before accessing the gallery. This gives you a record of who reviewed and what they selected.
What is the identity preference setting?
Controls how strongly the gallery prompts for client identity. Options range from fully anonymous access to a blocking prompt that requires name and email before any interaction, to full registration with email verification.
Can multiple people review the same gallery?
Yes. Anyone with the link (and password, if set) can access the gallery. Selections are shared — all reviewers see the same approved/rejected state in real time.
Client experience
How do clients review images?
Clients see a responsive image grid. Click any image to open the Review Panel for a large preview. Use arrow keys or swipe to navigate. Approve, reject, rate, pin, and comment from the Review Panel.
What is tri-state selection?
Each image has three states: approved (green), rejected (red), or pending (unset). This is more useful than a simple checkbox — "rejected" and "not yet reviewed" are meaningfully different when triaging a large gallery.
Can clients rate images with stars?
Yes. 1-5 star ratings on any image. Ratings combine with the tri-state selection for layered feedback. Filter by minimum star rating in the Filter Bar.
Does Skerp work on mobile?
Fully. The gallery adapts to any screen. Pinch-to-zoom on images, swipe to navigate in the Review Panel, and tap to approve or reject. Selections sync across devices in real time.
Can clients work offline?
Yes. If the connection drops, selections and actions queue locally. When the connection returns, everything syncs automatically. A status indicator shows the current sync state.
What keyboard shortcuts are available?
Arrow keys navigate images. A to approve, X to reject, U to clear. Number keys (1-5) set star ratings. S to shortlist for compare. F for fullscreen. Spacebar opens the Review Panel.
How does the Filter Bar work?
Filter by status (approved, rejected, pending), minimum star rating, or shortlisted images. Filters combine with AND logic. Counts update in real time.
Pins and comments
What are pins?
Pins are precise feedback markers placed directly on an image. Click any point on a photo in the Review Panel to drop a pin with a comment. The pin stays anchored to that exact location.
How do I leave a comment on an image?
Open the Review Panel and use the comment thread in the sidebar. Comments are per-image and visible to everyone with gallery access. You can also drop a pin for location-specific feedback.
Can clients attach files to a comment?
Yes. Clients can attach reference images, mood boards, or PDFs (up to 50 MB each) directly to any comment. Useful for "match this look" or "here is the original brief" without bouncing back to email.
Can I see all feedback in one place?
Yes. The Comments view on the photographer dashboard surfaces every pin, comment, and rating across the gallery. Filter by unresolved items and jump directly to any image.
Can I resolve pins and comments?
Yes. Mark any pin or comment as resolved from the dashboard. Resolved items are dimmed but remain visible for reference. Filter to show only unresolved feedback.
Do pins work on mobile?
Yes. Long-press on an image in the Review Panel to place a pin. The pin and comment form appear inline.
Approvals
How does the approval process work?
After reviewing all images, the client clicks "Approve selection" in the Selection Bar. A confirmation dialog shows a summary with thumbnail mosaic and counts. The client confirms, and the gallery locks — selections become final.
Can I set a minimum or maximum number of selections?
Yes. Set both in gallery settings. The client cannot submit until they meet the minimum. If a maximum is set, they cannot approve more images than the limit. The Selection Bar shows progress toward the goal.
What happens after a client approves?
The gallery status changes to Approved. You receive an email notification with the selection summary. The client sees a customizable thank-you page. Optionally, redirect them to an external URL (your booking page, for example).
Can I reopen an approved gallery?
Yes. From the Gallery Overview, reopen the gallery to unlock selections. The client can make changes and re-submit. A snapshot of the previous state is saved automatically before reopening.
What is the thank-you page?
A confirmation page shown after approval. Customize the message in gallery settings. Optionally set a redirect URL to send clients to your website, a booking page, or a feedback form.
Can clients leave a message when approving?
Yes. The approval dialog includes an optional message field. The message is included in the notification email you receive.
Exporting
How do I export approved selections to Lightroom?
Download the proof file (.txt) from the Gallery Overview. It contains one filename per line. In Lightroom, use the Library Filter text search — paste the filenames to filter your catalog to only the approved shots.
Can I copy filenames to the clipboard?
Yes. One click copies all approved filenames, separated by newlines. Paste them into Lightroom's Library Filter — or any tool that accepts a filename list.
What PDF exports are available?
Two formats: a contact sheet (thumbnail grid with filenames) and a proof report (detailed view with selection status, star ratings, and comments). PDFs are generated in the background and available for download from the Gallery Overview. Available on Standard, Pro, and Studio plans.
Can clients download images as a ZIP?
Yes. On download galleries, clients can download all images or selected images as a streaming ZIP file. A real-time progress bar shows download status. On proof galleries, ZIP download is available to the photographer from the Gallery Overview.
Does the proof file work with other DAMs?
Yes. The proof file is a plain text list of filenames — one per line — so any digital asset manager that supports filename filtering can consume it. Skerp only ships a dedicated plugin for Lightroom Classic (Skerper); for other DAMs you work from the text file.
Skerper Lightroom plugin
What is the Skerper plugin?
A Lightroom Classic plugin that connects your Lightroom catalog to Skerp. Sync approved selections directly — no manual file export needed. Available on Standard, Pro, and Studio plans.
How do I install the Skerper plugin?
Download the plugin from Settings > Skerper in your Skerp dashboard. In Lightroom Classic, go to File > Plug-in Manager > Add and select the downloaded plugin. Click "Authorize in browser" — Skerp opens, you confirm, and the plugin captures the token automatically. No manual API key copy-paste.
How do I connect a gallery to Lightroom?
Use the Publish Service: your Lightroom publish collection is the gallery. Drag photos in, hit Publish, and Skerp receives them with filenames, captions, and keywords intact. Remove a photo and it leaves the gallery.
How does syncing work?
Sync is explicit and deliberate. Click "Sync Now" in the plugin to pull every client decision (approvals, rejections, ratings) and write them into Lightroom. A pre-sync dialog summarises exactly what will change before anything is written to your catalog. Comments flow both ways — client notes appear in Lightroom's Comments panel and your replies flow back to the gallery.
Can I configure how decisions land in Lightroom?
Yes. Map Approved, Rejected, and Unreviewed to any combination of pick flag, color label, keyword, and star rating. Set a global default in Skerper settings, then override per gallery when a project needs something different.
Does the plugin work with Lightroom CC?
The plugin is built for Lightroom Classic. Lightroom CC (cloud) does not support third-party plugins. For Lightroom CC users, use the proof file export instead.
Billing and plans
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The Free plan includes up to 3 active galleries and 3 GB storage. Core proofing features are included. No credit card required, no time limit.
What plans are available?
Four tiers: Free ($0, 3 galleries, 3 GB), Standard ($15/mo or $12/mo annual, 50 GB), Pro ($29/mo or $22/mo annual, 500 GB), and Studio (on request, multi-seat with team workflow). Standard and Pro both include the Skerper Lightroom plugin, custom branding, watermarking, and PDF exports — they differ mainly in storage. Studio adds team roles, internal review, shared branding, and drop links.
How does the free trial work?
Every new account gets 14 days of Standard features. No credit card required. After the trial, you keep your galleries and data but drop to Free plan limits unless you subscribe.
Can I change plans at any time?
Yes. Upgrade or downgrade from Settings > Billing. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing cycle.
What happens if I exceed my storage limit?
You receive a warning at 85% usage. At 100%, new uploads are blocked until you free up space or upgrade. Existing galleries remain accessible.
What happens when I downgrade?
If your usage exceeds the new plan limits, you get a 7-day grace period. After that, excess galleries (newest first) are frozen — clients cannot access them and you cannot edit them. Upgrade or delete frozen galleries to restore access. After 90 days, frozen galleries are permanently deleted.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. No contracts, no cancellation fees. Cancel from your billing page. Your plan stays active until the end of the billing cycle, then reverts to Free.
What is an invite code?
A promo code that grants tier access or a discount. Enter it on the billing page under "Have an invite code?" or use it during registration. Some codes grant free access to a paid tier for a set number of days.
Delivery galleries and drop links
How do I deliver final images to my client?
Create a download gallery, upload the final images, and share the link. Clients see the images in a gallery view and can download individually or as a ZIP. No selection or approval workflow — just viewing and downloading.
Can I convert a proof gallery to a download gallery?
Yes. After a proof gallery is approved, you can convert it to a download gallery from the Gallery Overview. The approved images carry over to the download gallery.
What is the download page?
An immersive page where clients download their delivered images. Streaming ZIP download with a real-time progress bar. Clients can also download individual images.
What is a drop link?
A tokenised upload URL that lets clients send files into a project. Share the link and clients can drag and drop files directly — no account required. Useful for receiving mood boards, references, source files, or images from second shooters. Drop links are studio-exclusive.
How do I create a drop link?
On the Studio plan, generate a drop link from the project view. Optionally set a password. Share the link — anyone with it can upload files to that project.
Can I set a password on a drop link?
Yes. Set a password when creating the drop link. Uploaders enter it before the upload page loads.
Branding and customization
Can I add my own logo and branding to galleries?
Yes. Go to Settings > Branding. Upload your logo, set an accent color, and choose a default theme (dark or light). Your branding appears in gallery headers and email notifications. Available on Standard, Pro, and Studio plans.
Can I override branding per gallery?
Yes. Each gallery has optional branding overrides for logo, accent color, and theme. Overrides apply to that gallery only — your default branding remains unchanged.
What is the accent color?
A single color used for buttons, selection highlights, and UI accents throughout your galleries and emails. Pick any color that matches your brand. The default is Skerp's blue-violet.
Can I customize email notifications?
Yes. Go to Settings > Email. Customize the subject line and body text for invitation, approval, and delivery emails. Use placeholders like {gallery_title} and {client_name} for dynamic content.
What is the "Powered by Skerp" badge?
A small badge in gallery footers on the Free plan. Upgrading to Standard or higher removes it. Your galleries, your brand.
Can I set a company address for emails?
Yes. Go to Settings > Branding. The company name and address appear in email footers for compliance. Set a custom "from" name so emails arrive from your studio name.
Studio and team accounts
What is a studio account?
A shared workspace for photography teams. One studio, multiple photographers. Shared branding, shared client registry, project organization, and a review workflow where admins approve galleries before they go to clients.
What roles are available?
Three roles: Owner (full control, billing, settings), Admin (manages team, approves galleries, accesses all galleries), and Photographer (creates galleries, uploads images, submits for review). Owners and Admins can manage team members.
What is the submit-for-review workflow?
When a Photographer finishes a gallery, they submit it for review instead of sending directly to the client. An Admin reviews the gallery and either approves it (making it ready to send) or requests changes with notes. The Photographer revises and resubmits.
What are projects?
A way to group related galleries within a studio. Create a project (e.g., "Smith Wedding"), attach galleries to it, and manage them together. Projects have their own status and can be viewed from the Projects page.
Is the client registry shared across the team?
Yes. Studio clients are visible to all team members. Any photographer in the studio can assign a gallery to an existing client without re-entering contact details.
How do I create a studio?
Go to Settings > Studio. Create a studio name and invite team members by email. Each member gets their own login and role. Studio branding can override individual photographer branding.
