Skerp vs ShootProof

ShootProof for the business. Skerp for the proofing.

ShootProof is a business platform — invoicing, contracts, print store, email marketing — with a gallery attached. Skerp is the inverse: a focused photo proofing tool with annotations, comments, side-by-side compare, real-time presence, and two-way Lightroom sync on every plan. The two work well alongside each other.

Why photographers add Skerp

Five reasons, in roughly the order we hear them.

Real proofing tools, not just delivery + business glue

ShootProof is a business platform with a gallery attached. The gallery itself has no annotations, no comments, no side-by-side compare, no real-time presence — favorites and downloads, essentially. Skerp is the inverse: the gallery is the entire product, with every modern proofing primitive on every plan.

Two-way Lightroom sync, not just upload + favorites

ShootProof has a Lightroom plugin that uploads images and pulls favorites back. Skerper, our Lightroom Classic plugin, is bidirectional: client selections, ratings, and per-image comments flow into the catalog automatically, and your replies sync back to the gallery — so the photographer-client conversation lives in both surfaces simultaneously.

Storage-tier pricing, not photo-count pricing

ShootProof prices by photo count (100 / 1,500 / 5,000 / 25,000 / unlimited). Skerp prices by storage. For working photographers shooting modern mirrorless files, storage caps map more naturally to actual usage than photo counts — and there's no cliff where adding one more image bumps you to the next tier.

EU-only data residency, publicly disclosed

All Skerp account data and images live in the European Union, operated by a Dutch company (Bruring Ops B.V., Amsterdam). ShootProof doesn't publicly disclose data residency. For European photographers serving regulated clients, this is procurement-grade, not a marketing line.

A modern UI that respects the editing environment

ShootProof's interface is dated and light-themed. Skerp is dark-first by default — matching Lightroom, Capture One, and Photoshop. The proofing tool shouldn't pull the photographer out of their editing aesthetic.

What ShootProof still does better

Honest deltas — most photographers should keep using ShootProof for the things it does well.

  • Built-in business platform — invoicing, e-signed contracts, email marketing, sales reports, bookings. If you want one bill that replaces three or four business tools, ShootProof gives you that.
  • Print store and lab integration — built-in print sales with commission-free options on paid tiers. Skerp doesn't sell prints.
  • Unlimited photo count tier — at the top end ShootProof offers truly unlimited photo storage, which can be the right shape for archival-heavy businesses.
  • Lightroom plugin exists — both Skerp and ShootProof ship Lightroom integration; if you only need one-way upload + favorites-pull, ShootProof's plugin covers that.
  • 1-on-1 phone support on paid plans — Skerp is email support with priority SLAs on Standard+ and Studio, but no phone line.

Common questions

I use ShootProof for invoicing and contracts. Can I keep doing that?

Yes. Skerp doesn't replace ShootProof's business platform — invoicing, contracts, email marketing, bookings stay where they are. Use Skerp for the proofing surface (galleries, client selections, annotations, Lightroom sync) and keep your existing business tools running. The two systems are independent.

Does Skerp sell prints?

No, and we don't plan to. ShootProof has a built-in print store with lab integration; if print sales is core to your business, that stays on ShootProof or another platform. Skerp pairs with whichever lab you already work with.

How does the Lightroom integration compare?

Both ship Lightroom Classic plugins. ShootProof's is upload + favorites-sync — one-way for selections. Skerper (Skerp's plugin) is two-way: client approvals, ratings, and per-image comments flow into the catalog automatically, and your replies sync back to the gallery. If you mostly need to upload and pull a "selected" flag, ShootProof's is fine. If you want the conversation to live in Lightroom, Skerper is the upgrade.

Storage-tier pricing vs photo-count pricing — which fits my business better?

Photo-count pricing (ShootProof) feels intuitive but punishes high-resolution shooters: 5,000 raw-JPEG-pairs from a modern 60-megapixel camera can fill a "5,000 photos" tier instantly, even though the actual storage is modest. Storage pricing (Skerp) maps more naturally to what you're actually using. Most working photographers fit comfortably in Standard's 50 GB; high-volume / archival shapes use Pro's 500 GB.

Do my clients need an account?

No. Skerp galleries are link-based — clients open the link and start selecting immediately. Optional magic-link login at /my-galleries for clients who want their history across photographers, but registration is never required.

Where is my data stored?

In the European Union, exclusively. Skerp is operated by Bruring Ops B.V., Amsterdam (KvK 81008716), and uses Cloudflare R2 with EU-only region pinning. For European photographers serving regulated end-clients, this is procurement-grade differentiation, not marketing.

What about studio / team features?

Skerp Studio (contact-only, per-photographer-seat) ships team roles (Owner / Member / Photographer), a review workflow (photographer submits → Member reviews → photographer revises → client approves), shared client registry, projects, and drop links for client-to-photographer file delivery. ShootProof does not have team features. If you run a studio with multiple photographers, this is the biggest delta.

How long to try Skerp on a real client?

Free plan, no credit card, 3 galleries — most photographers ship their first real proofing gallery in under 30 minutes. Honest validation: use Skerp for your next selection round alongside (or instead of) ShootProof, and ask the client which workflow felt clearer.

Add Skerp to your next gallery.

14-day trial on every paid plan. No credit card. Free plan is genuinely useful if you want to test the proofing flow with one real client before changing anything.
